Bellville Golf Club
Centrally situated in the Peninsula (Cape Town, South Africa), within easy reach from all major access routes, the Bellville Golf Club is a must for all golfers. This 18-hole golf course situated in the Welgemoed suburb of Bellville, is set in a sheltered valley of rolling hills with panoramic views of the Hottentots Holland Mountains in the distance.
The Par 72, 6000-metre course offers golfers the opportunity to play a challenging round of golf. When upgrading the course, the architects made every effort to incorporate natural contours and features.
This resulted in a course that caters to golfers of all levels of experience. The course is well bunkered, well-watered and has 5 water holes. The dams and water canals are filled with birds and wild fowl. Manicured fairways and greens, lined with a variety of trees and floral features, add to the tranquil and pleasing setting.
Bellville GC has established itself as a golfing powerhouse in the Western Cape. This is highlighted by the Premier League team lifting the Stefan Trophy for the third successive year in 2012. The club enters teams in majority of the Western Province leagues and our members are a mainstay in various provincial teams.
The course was originally a 9-hole design by Bob Grimsdell. Play officially began during 1958 when it was known as the Welgemoed Golf Club. In 1981, the course was upgraded to 18 holes by course architect Bill Kerr. Major changes were later undertaken by Mark Muller and the “new” course came into play in early 1995.
The first clubhouse was in the old Welgemoed farmhouse (which was built in 1956 and has since been restored, and is now the delightful “De Oude Welgemoed” restaurant.) In 1969 the clubhouse was relocated to where the Karate club is today. Since 1981, the clubhouse has been housed in its present facility.
Substantial improvements have been undertaken over the last couple of years to make the course more player-friendly.
Golf Course Layout
Situated in the magnificent Welgemoed Valley, this beautiful Par 72 (6000 m) course is hardly affected by local prevailing winds. The course is challenging with a number of water hazards and well-placed bunkers.
